Scandal 211 Recap: A Criminal, A Whore, an Idiot and a Liar

Pardon the late nature of this recap but I need to give this labor of love the attention it deserves and I was too busy running around D.C. these past few days to do so (How Olivia Pope of me right? lol).

Thanks to everyone for their patience and I hope you thoroughly enjoy!

Let’s take it from the top people!

I Love the way you LEAVE!

Besides being completely and undeniably unattractive Edison has managed to be simultaneously stubborn, rude, disrespectful and once again I say NEEDY. He was, as Miss Cyrus would say, poking a bear, said bear may be 5’4 with a mean Farrah Fawcett curl and kick-ass heels but she will read you like a book! Oh wait, she already did!

I cannot say how pleased I am that Scandal writers and Kerry let Olivia take it all the way there and back with that 5-point plan (no relation to Mitts non-existent 5-point plan to finish middle class America off for good) on how raggedy Edison really is. The sad thing is Olivia and Edison, unfortunately, are in a relationship they should be there for one another and here he is claiming he is trying to help by constantly accusing and threatening her. Edison boo you can help by making damn sure that you do your part for the team, it’s called being a Gladiator! I mean if you are really down for the cause I need you to be functioning and asking how you can help and not threatening that you may not help, this is a get down or lay down type of circle and you are messing with the ringleader. If Edison isn’t ready to go down with the ship or help hold it together he is on the other side and you know what we say to the other side…..

Honestly the dynamic of this relationship is exhausting and quite disheartening. I am sure that the dichotomy of Edison’s character and the casting of Norm as Edison were all deliberate and I don’t think we were supposed to like Edison and Shonda is a genius so it worked. With that said, the sexiest thing I have seen Edison do all season is walk out the door of Livs apartment, that’s something I can get into, that’s what I like to see.

YOUR SOLUTION IS A FELONY

This episode takes us back to the beginning of Fitzs Angels and really brings my Baby Fitz Montessori comparison full circle. Here they are, all of Fitz guardians and supporters doing for Fitz what Fitz cannot do for himself, the mantrums that ensued during this episode were quite befitting as well.

While on twitter I noticed that someone’s raised the question about who was more evil, Sally or Hollis. I thought that was a great question but I really don’t think that Sally is evil, I think that she is power-hungry and manipulative and a little naive but Hollis? Hollis is straight up evil, he even said it himself!
"I may be a sumbitch but Fitz is as clean as a whistle"

KEEP HOPE ALIVE

Fitz T. Grant III has daddy issues! This shows from the very second his father is mentioned when Cyrus proclaims that he will never agree to it, as if he’s agreed to any of the other crap Fitzs Angels do behind his back. Either way, the crew resolves to inviting Jerry and after being bribed with the tasty snack that is Olivia Cookies Fitz begrudgingly agrees.

The moment Jerry walks in he is demanding attention and challenging every decision Fitz makes. I really don’t think that Fitz hates his father but he has some serious father issues. It seems to me that Jerry was a very powerful and charming man and that he had gained Fitzs respect and admiration as a young man but when Fitz got older and Jerry’s choices outside of the political arena weren’t to Fitzs liking or benefit, most notably his affair with a woman named “Hope.”

Whatever the affair of Jerry’s other poor decisions did to their family was probably worse than what it did to his political career. Jerry still has some political clout but he doesn’t seem to have and admiration or deep respect from his son.

Fitz himself says that he doesn’t want to be like his father, not now, not ever. That statement wreaks of a man that is deathly afraid of become the fallen hero that is his father. Not many people aren’t afraid if becoming their parents but Fitz is a young handsome politician who happens to have a son of his own and a wife and a woman that he is madly in love with that happens to not be his wife. You can see where the problems lie, and that’s not even the half of it when we get into how his father doubts him and has zero confidence in his abilities nor does he give Fitz a sense of approval, we could go on all day about the dysfunctional nature of this relationship but I will leave it at affairs and Mantrums.

THE BLACK HOLE THAT IS THE VICE PRESIDENCY

Ah Cyrus Rutherford Beene, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

Cyrus honey you did that! Just as soon as Olivia gave him that call him and Mellie were getting Fitz up and in a suit ready to kick people out like Pam! Fitz angels were on all cylinders to get the gremlin that is Sally back where she belongs.

Sally Langston was at it as usual and she got what was coming to her with that 15 minutes of fame presidency that got cut 5 minutes short. Baby step, ease up off of Fitzs desk and take your shit with you!

The apology to Fitz at the end of the episode was the best. To me that moment felt like when you get a new puppy and he tears up everything and pisses everywhere for like 2 months and then one day you realize he hasn’t pissed on or ripped anything all week and just as you were thinking about it he comes in your room with the missing sock to the pair you needed to wear that day and its still in tact and finally uses the little opening on the front door to go pee without waking you up or getting lost in the yard and sitting on command and you’re like “awwwwwww you get a treat! Good boy good boy!” Yeah it was like that. Not completely off the hook but you’re not going back to the pound either so we all win!

IGNITING THE BASE

Fitz and Livs hotel scene was nice, I will give it a nice, not including where our imaginations took us one minute after Fitzs head disappeared and Liv took that first heavy breath. These two are extremely hot but, being the great actors that they are, they play to the emotion of the scene. Olivia is trying to convince Fitz to allow his father to come on the campaign trail and Fitz is trying to blow off some steam in the steamiest way steam can be blown off. Fitz looks like a sexy beast and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t lusting after Tony while watching, the man is perfection and he looks like he has lost all learned behavior at the sight of Olivia. It was definitely not the same as the scene from “The Trail” but it was great.

IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT

lostincandyland:

KISSUHHHH!!!! Yessssuhhhhhh!!! lol

To see Oivia and Fitz together again was everything, to see them staying true to their feelings for one another was everything with a cherry on top to have them together and Olivia initiating a kiss and Fitz later asking for a divorce is everything with a cherry on top with caramel topping! The Oval Office scene was sexy and romantic and clever on behalf of the writers. I could only imagine how perfect that kiss must have felt for Liv knowing that Fitz had “almost died” and she realized what it would feel like if he was not there, what it would feel like to know that she had not been all in with him and know that the chance to do so may not come….. Regret isn’t even the word! Despite that scare he is there, in front of her and she is there with him and for him, not much more could be right in Olitzland at that moment.

Olitz was sparking up all kinds of emotions with the wood-chopping scene. If you listen to the Scandal Revealed podcast Tony reveals how Fitz ended up chopping wood and not doing something un-sexy or less-beastly like IDK playing baseball, that’s neither here nor there. I loved this scene 1. Because of the mantrum/emotion that Fitz is going through, 2. Because when he began to cry into Livs bosom and she consoled him all of my mother-lover feelings staged a emotional coup in my body. I was in Heaven!!!!! That scene was extremely touching and was a perfect example of how Fitz “lets” Olivia know who he his.

Now I have to address this elevator scene controversy and add my piece. I was very uncomfortable watching that scene the very first time but after having watched 3xs I appreciated it for the piece of art reflecting life that it is. I’ve been around drunk people that are touchy-feely and incoherent and belligerent and sometimes violent, not towards me but whatever. Lets just keep it in the context of the show, these aren’t strangers they’re boning, frequently and consensually boning to their hearts desire and Fitz is drunk and sad. In keeping it in context with the show I will say this, let’s stop the writers from killing pregnant women before we get in over our heads in saving the world from overzealous drunks, ok?

RUNNING LIKE YOU’RE BEING CHASED

Fitz mantrum in the town hall setup was not all bad seeing that it lead to this phenomenal piece by Olivia. Kerry carried that line like it was a new Celine bag honey! I love howclearly she thinks politically and how she comes full circle about the effects of their relationship when she says “I would have caught it if we weren’t…..” Of course meaning if they weren’t screwing and in the early stages of falling madly in love. Olivia is, once again, there for him and doing what she does best partly because of how well she knows Fitz. Fitz was indeed running as if he were being chased and many people including Cyrus and Olivia are putting their asses on the line unordered for him to win. This talk was really Olivia’s way of making sure that Fitz was worth doing the dirt for and also her way of making sure that he was confident in himself.

Cyrus also has a great monologue that is really the counterpart to her talk with Fitz. She knows that he is great, she knows who he is, she knows how great he is, she believes in him but she also knows that he can’t do what needs to be done to win and people like her, and she is one of them, have to do it for him, she has to make the history so that Fitz can go down in history.

The rest of the story goes.. Edison’s sorry ass proposes to Liv and Fitz asks for a divorce and now we are on a bi-week with nothing to do but re-watch The Trail and be trashy so, here we are! I must say I have had thoughts about whether or not Shonda has plans for a Liv and Edison flashback episode, that may not be as dreadful as present-day Pudding Pants. Who knows…

Happy “lets be inappropriate” Wednesday!

P.S. I made a new friend while in D.C. and I really don’t think it would have worked out as well if we weren’t both Gladiators. it’s always great to run into a fellow Scandal fanatic!
